Sham, an Arabian horse, is born in the African country of Morocco and is owned by a rich sultan who has many fine horses and top jockeys to ride them. Young 
Sham and five other horses are sent by ship to King Louis XV of France. Unfortunately the horses are not fed during the sea journey thanks to a dastardly sea captain who pocketed the money meant for hay and feed. When they arrive they are laughed at and Agba, the mute horse boy, can do little to protect Sham.

Agba stays close to his beloved horse, however, and the two go through many 
trials before winding up on the Earl of Godolphin's estate in England where an amazing thing happens. To read about the problems Sham and Agba encounter and the surprising ending to the tale, read King of the Wind.
